1996年，朱元鴻與黃金麟、蔡瑞明老師在東海大學舉辦了一場別開生面的會議：「拓邊／扣邊」社會學研討會，嘗試突破學科領域的框架，扣問與展拓社會學的核心關切。2002年交大社文所創立，更進一步以批判思想和文化研究試圖建立跨學科的研究機構與社群。時光流轉，在邁入2023年的今天，尤其在朱元鴻老師屆臨退休之際，我們希望能夠再次扣─拓學術的邊界，透過曾受朱老師指導並開枝散葉於多元領域的學術與社會工作者的與談，描繪探索新世代的人社地景。除了學科間的跨─介外，我們也進一步將「邊界問題」拓展到理論與經驗、研究與教學、學術與實務／社會實踐之間的跨越與媒介，期望能夠開拓新的跨界想像與行動。
In 1996, Prof. Chu Yuan Horng, together with Prof. Huang Jinlin and Prof. Cai Ruiming, held a groundbreaking conference on sociology at Tunghai University: “Contested Frontier:A Sociological Symposium,” trying to break through the framework between different disciplines, questioning and expanding the core concerns of sociology. Institute of Social Research and Cultural Studies, founded by Jiaotong University in 2002, further attempts to establish interdisciplinary research institutions and communities with critical thoughts and cultural studies. With the passage of time, today, as we enter 2023, especially when Prof. Chu is about to retire, we hope to once again contest academic boundaries of ─ and jointly depict and explore the humanistic and social landscape of the new generation through the talks of researchers and teachers in different academic fields and workers in multiple social fields who have been instructed by Prof. Chu. In addition, we will further expand problematics to the cooperation or contradiction between theory and experience, research and teaching, academic and social practice, hoping to open up new cross-border imagination and actions.
